Sukiyaki Sauce (Warishita)

Warishita sauce is essential to Kanto-style sukiyaki!

Ingredients: 4 to 5 servings

1 piece
Sugar and mirin
2 and 1/2 tablespoons each
Sake and soy sauce
5 tablespoons each
1 teaspoon
300 ml


1. In a pot, soak the konbu in water for a while. Bring the pot to a boil. After it boils, take out the konbu and add all the ingredients to the pan. Bring back to a boil and it's done!
2. Simmer the sukiyaki ingredients with the warishita sauce. Before you add the beef to the pot, season with a little sugar and soy sauce and it'll result in a better flavour!

Story Behind this Recipe

I love my mum's sukiyaki and I asked for her warishita recipe. Since then, this has been my family's favorite.
At the end of a sukiyaki meal, we cook udon noodles in the leftover warishita sauce. It's very tasty and I always eat too much.
