Mix the rice with a little ketchup plus sugar, salt etc. to flavor it. Form the rice into the face (a long thin oval), nose (small round ball), and 2 ears.
Stick on the ears. Press them on firmly using plastic wrap. Position them a bit lower than the middle of the face.
Boil the spinach and wring it out well. Spread the leaves out gently and stick them on the face above the ears. Fold up the bottom edge to make the cap brim.
Make the eyes: Cut oval shapes for the eyes out of the sliced cheese using a toothpick. Cut irises out from the nori, and cut small circles with a straw out of the cheese (sliced in half to make it thin) for the pupils.
Cut the eyebrows, beard, and sideburns out of nori. Refer to the photo for the shapes.
Make the L emblem for the cap: Cut a circle out of the sliced cheese. Scrape out an L with the end of a toothpick. Stick it on the cap.
Stick on the eyebrows, eyes, beard, nose and side burns in that order. Secure the eyes and nose with small bits of long pasta. Done!
Put a tiny bit of ketchup on the tip of a toothpick to stick on the parts in Steps 4 and 7.
How about some Mystery Boxes to go with Luigi? Recipe ID: 1709493
Story Behind this Recipe
My sons love Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart. I made a simplified Mario bento which they loved! So, I tried making Luigi too.
Add the ketchup to the rice sparingly...otherwise Luigi will have a sunburned face. Scrape out the L on the cap in Step 6. Luigi may be easier than Mario to make. Make Luigi's face a bit longer with gentler features than Mario; well that's my image of him anyway.
