Edamame Garlic

Edamame Garlic

This is popular with the locals in Hawaii. The sweet chili sauce and garlic tossed with the edamame is not your usual edamame.

Ingredients: 1 serving

Frozen edamame (in the pods)
1 bag (1 lb, 454 g)
Sweet chilli sauce
1 tablespoon
to taste (I use about 4 cloves)
Sesame oil (to saute the garlic)
as needed
to taste

1. Chop the garlic and saute in sesame oil until fragrant. Remove from the heat and let cool. If you're short on time, you could use raw garlic.
2. Boil the edamame in salted water. If using frozen edamame, follow the directions on the package. I boiled for about 5 minutes.
3. When they are done boiling, cool the edamame in ice water.
4. Toss with the sweet chili sauce.
5. Add the aromatic sauteed garlic and mix. Adjust the sweetness and saltiness while checking on the taste. It should be rather salty.
6. The "Edamame Garlic" is ready!

Story Behind this Recipe

This is like what you'd find at a supermarket deli in Hawaii. Sweet chili sauce coated edamame seems like a bad idea, but after trying it, I decided to imitate it. I added sautéed garlic as a touch.
