Wasabi-Flavored Rice Balls with Tempura Crumbs, Sesame Salt, and Green Onions

These onigiri are made with tempura crumbs, onions, sesame salt, mentsuyu, and wasabi! I topped it with matcha.

Ingredients: 1 serving (2 pieces)

Freshly cooked rice
1 rice bowl's worth
Green onions (finely chopped)
2 heaping tablespoons
Tempura crumbs
2 tablespoon
Mentsuyu
a dash
Bonito flakes
a pinch
Sesame salt
to taste
Hot water
a small amount to adjust the texture of the rice, if necessary
Wasabi
a small amount
Grated cheese
1-2 teaspoons
Matcha
to taste

Steps

1. Cut the green onions into small pieces. Soak the tempura crumbs in a bit of mentsuyu. If using a concentrated type, dilute it with water.
2. Mix together the fresh rice, tempura crumbs, bonito flakes, and sesame salt in a bowl.
3. Mix in the green onions and season to taste with the sesame salt and mentsuyu.
4. Mix in the wasabi and powdered cheese.
5. Roll into your desired shapes. I made round onigiri.
6. Arrange on a plate to finish. I garnished them with matcha.
