Sardines Marinated in Tomato Nanban Sauce

It's a little boring to make the same Nanban sauce dish all the time!
I deep-fried the sardines in olive oil, and marinated with Japanese vegetables.
They were incredibly delicious, and I couldn't believe myself!

Green onions
as needed
Canned tomatoes
as needed
Vegetables of your choice
as needed
2 cloves
3 tablespoons
★Dashi stock
3 tablespoons
★Soy sauce
3 tablespoons
4 tablespoons
1 tablespoon
Olive oil
as needed
Katakuriko or cornstarch
as needed


1. Cut all the ingredients beforehand. I used green onions and carrot this time, but you can use whatever you can find at home.
2. I used sardine fillets this time. It's also delicious with horse mackerel.
3. Coat the sardines in katakuriko or cornstarch.
4. Add the garlic and katakuriko in plenty of olive oil, fry until nicely browned but not burnt, and set them aside.
5. Fry both sides of the sardines over medium heat until browned. Add more olive oil if needed.
6. Put the garlic and takanotsume that you set aside in Step 4, and all the ★ ingredients in a plastic container, and mix lightly.
7. When the sardines are cooked, marinate in the Nanban sauce to soak the flavor. Ideally, marinate overnight! It's worth the wait!!
8. They are done They are just irresistible!! Even if you make a huge batch, they will be all gone in no time.

I was given tons of sardines, and I wanted to make delicious dishes with them!

So I made my favorite Nanban sauce dish with them !
