Candied Small Dried Sardines for New Year's

Candied Small Dried Sardines for New Year's

You can make "gomame," or candied small dried sardines very easily. They're also called Tazukuri. When I tried making these at home, my kid said they were delicious!

Small dried sardines
60 g
Soy sauce
2 scant tablespoons
2 tablespoons
2 tablespoons
White sesame seeds (optional)
as needed

1. Dry-roast the small dried sardines until they're crispy and break in half. Remove them from the pan.
2. Add the seasoning ingredients to the pan, and mix before turning on the heat.
3. Turn to high heat. When the sauce starts to make large bubbles uniformly, quickly add the sardines and mix.
4. As soon as you put the sardines in the pan, turn off the heat. Sprinkle with white sesame seeds to your liking.
5. Spread to cool, and they're done.
