Chinese Beef Steak (Household Miso Beef)

Chinese-style steak is a nice change of pace once in a while.
This is a simple recipe that you just marinate and cook.


a small amount
★Ginger (grated)
1 tablespoon
★Garlic (grated)
1 tablespoon
★Star anise
2 pieces
★Szechuan pepper
about 40 kernels
★Soy sauce
2 tablespoons
★Lao-cho soy sauce (you can use the same amount of regular soy sauce if unavailable)
2 tablespoons
★Chicken stock granules
1 teaspoon
★Shaoxing wine
1 tablespoon
1 teaspoon
Fresh coriander
to taste


1. Put the ★ ingredients and the beef in a bowl, and leave to marinate for 20 minutes.
2. Spread vegetable oil in a frying pan, and cook the meat. Add the dressing from Step 1 after the meat has cooked through, heat, and it is done. Cook to your desired doneness.
3. Add the meat from Step 2 on top of the plates spread with lettuce. Eat together with Chinese cabbage if you like.
