Cheese Mochi in the Microwave

Cheese Mochi in the Microwave

Put dried mochi cakes in a generous amount of water and microwave. You just need one plate, so cleanup is easy too. The mochi becomes meltingly soft. Have some lazy cheese mochi!

Ingredients: 1 serving

Mochi (rice cakes)
Sliced cheese
1 to 2 slices (to taste)
Shredded nori seaweed (you can just shred up regular nori with your hands)
a generous amount (to taste)
Soy sauce
to taste
Umami seasoning (optional)
2 to 3 shakes
Plastic wrap
2 plate-sized sheets

1. Line a plate with a piece of plastic wrap that is bigger than the plate. Put the mochi cakes on the plastic wrap, and spoon 2 tablespoons of water over them.
2. Microwave for 1 minute 10 seconds or so at 600w. Turn the mochi cakes over, and microwave for another 10 to 20 seconds.
3. Drain off the water in the plate, top the mochi cakes with cheese and microwave again to melt the cheese.
4. Add soy sauce and a couple of shakes of umami seasoning plus lots of shredded nori seaweed, and serve.
5. When the mochi cakes are eaten, peel the plastic off the plate and just throw it out. No need to worry too much about dirty dishes. You just need to rinse it off.

Story Behind this Recipe

When we eat mochi for New Years, I always make it like this.
My mother used to make it for me when I was a child. I love it even more than I like mochi cakes in soup.
