Combine A ingredients with a cutting motion, then soak the sliced bread in the egg mixture for 8 hours. (Let it sit in the refrigerator.)
I soak them overnight for breakfast the next morning. This much egg mixture gets magically soaked up by morning.
The bread is completely infused with the egg mixture. Turn the bread over from time to time. The next step is to fry.
Heat the butter in a frying pan, then slowly fry both sides of the bread for about 20 minutes over low heat until the surfaces are crisp.
Sprinkle with a little powdered sugar, or drizzle with honey or maple syrup before serving.
This recipe is also delicious made with baguettes.
Story Behind this Recipe
I came up with this recipe by completely infusing the bread with the egg mixture, then slowly frying it until it's entirely cooked through.
4-slice bread (3-cm thick slices) give a fluffy and delicious finish. They burn easily, so fry over low heat. Be sure to cover the pan with a lid. The time it takes to cook will vary depending on the thickness of the bread. I used thick sliced (3 cm) bread.
