Fried Tofu Blocks in Sweet and Spicy Miso

When you're looking for a dish using atsuage thick fried tofu, try this one. It's our family's favorite.

Ingredients: 2 servings

1 (large)
Sesame seed oil
1 teaspoon
Blended miso seasoning:
Red miso
1 1/2 tablespoons
1 1/2 tablespoons
Soy sauce
2 teaspoons


1. Cube the atsuage.
2. Combine all ingredients for the blended miso and mix well.
3. Heat some sesame oil in a frying pan, and grill the tofu from Step 1 over medium heat.
4. When brown, add the blended miso from Step 2.
5. Stir-fry while mixing well with the miso, and it's done.
6. Since the tofu blocks were on the small side in the picture above, there's a relatively large amount of miso in the picture above.

Story Behind this Recipe

We usually served the thick fried tofu pan-fried. It's simple, but we all love it. One time, I tried this different way of seasoning it, and my family ended up loving it, so I wrote it up into a recipe.
