Boil your fresh edamame bean in salted water. (If you're using the frozen kind, warm them up in the microwave.)
Chop your garlic and slice the chili pepper into thin rounds. Sauté both in olive oil until fragrant and golden. Try not to burn your ingredients here.
Add the edamame beans, and shake in some black pepper and give the pan a light toss to mix everything together.

The frozen edamame beans I had in my fridge looked a little frost bitten, so I decided to sauté mine.
They're not overly spicy since you won't be eating the pods, but the garlic and olive oil make an amazingly appetizing combination. If you're like me, sometimes you can leave stuff in the freezer too long til they get "freezer burn". If you sautée them, you'll still be able to enjoy your edamame without minding the color too much.
