Simple Chikuwa Nanban

Miyazaki Nanban uses chikuwa to make a healthy dish. The smell of sesame oil whets the appetite. This dish goes well with sake, or makes a perfect bento item.

Ingredients: 2 servings

Chikuwa

★Soy sauce
1 1/2 teaspoon
★Vinegar
1 tablespoon
★Sugar
1/2 teaspoon
★Sesame seeds (ground)
2 teaspoons
★Sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon
Tartar sauce
2 tablespoons

Steps

1. Cut the chikuwa in half lengthwise, then quarter horizontally (to make a total of 8 pieces).
2. Score the inside of the chikuwa as shown.
3. Put the ★ ingredients in a plastic bag. Massage the bag from the outside and marinate the chikuwa for 10 minutes.
4. In a frying pan or toaster oven, cook until golden brown. Serve with tartar sauce.
