Basil Pasta with Handmade Basil Sauce

Basil Pasta with Handmade Basil Sauce

If you have some handmade basil sauce then you can make this super-simple basil pasta! Add some thick-cut bacon for a nice texture.

Ingredients: 3-4 servings

300 g
150 g
Red chili pepper
to taste
Basil Sauce:
Basil leaves
70 g
Grated cheese
40 g
Consommé soup stock granules
2 teaspoons
Grated garlic
1/3 teaspoon
Olive oil
120-140 g

1. Add all of the ingredients for the basil sauce to a food processor and mix until everything is evenly blended to make the basil sauce.
2. Add some salt (not listed) to boiling water and boil the pasta for 1 minute less than directed on the package. Reserve about 100 ml of the pasta water.
3. Cut the onion into 3 mm thick slices. This time I used block bacon cut into sticks, but sliced bacon is also OK!
4. Take a little of the olive oil from the top of the basil sauce, add to a frying pan, and turn on the heat. Cook the bacon. Add chili pepper if you like.
5. Once the bacon is covered with oil, add the onions and lightly cook on high heat.
6. Add the basil sauce and mix everything together.
7. Add the boiled pasta and the reserved 100 ml of pasta water and cook. It's done when everything is evenly mixed with the basil sauce.
8. I don't season it any more than this, but you can add salt and pepper to taste. Transfer to a serving plate, and if you have any fresh basil leaves, garnish to make it more pretty.

Story Behind this Recipe

The basil pasta I had at a restaurant was delicious, so I tried making it at home using home-grown basil leaves to make the sauce!
Using thick cuts of bacon and basil sauce that doesn't contain pine nuts is only my preference.
