Asparagus in Chikuwa Wrapped in Pork Belly

This recipe pumps up the volume of the chikuwa!! Your kids will eat it all up. It is great as a side dish or in bento.

Ingredients: 8 sticks

Thinly sliced pork belly meat
8 slices
8 sticks
4 sticks
a small amount
a small amount
Ketchup, Japanese mustard, mayonnaise, whatever you like
You don't have to add asparagus to the chikuwa, you can use boiled carrots, spinach, or whatever you have in your fridge.


1. Peel the hard parts off of the asparagus with a peeler.
2. Boil the asparagus.
3. Cut the asparagus in half, and pack it into the chikuwa.
4. Wrap the chikuwa from Step 3 in the pork. It looks pretty if you wrap it at a bit of an angle.
5. After wrapping them all up...
6. Thoroughly fry while rolling them around in a pan until golden brown.
7. There will be grease, so wipe the pan with a paper towel. Finally, season with a bit of salt and pepper...
8. Cut them into you desired portion sizes, and they are done.

Story Behind this Recipe

I was getting tired of stuffing in just asparagus and cucumber, so I wrapped it up in pork slices that I just so happened to have, and it transformed from a beer snack into a side dish.
