Macrobiotic Simmered Sweet Onion and Sweet Potato

Sautéing the sweet onions brings out their sweetness for a flavorsome dish.

Ingredients: 4 servings

・Sweet potato
200 g
200 g
200 ml
・Beet sugar (or cane sugar)
1 tablespoon
1/2 teaspoon
・Soy sauce
1 tablespoon
・Kombu dashi stock granules
1/2 teaspoon
・Canola oil
as needed


1. Cut the onions and sweet potato into bite-sized pieces.
2. Heat canola oil in a pan and sauté the onions.
3. When the onions have softened, add the sweet potato cubes.
4. Add the water, soy sauce, sugar, dashi granules and salt to the pan, and simmer until the potatoes can easily be pierced with a skewer.
5. Turn off the heat, and cover with a lid to let the flavors meld.
