If you don't have the palm sugar, use regular sugar. The ★ ingredients are to taste
Prepare all ingredients.
This is the cassava root. If you can't get it, you can use sweet potato instead. Peel, then boil until softened.
Once soft, add the remaining ingredients and simmer until it's as rich as you like.
Done. Serve hot or chilled.

I learned this from my Balinese father.
You can use canned, powdered, or fresh coconut milk depending on what's available to you. If it's too rich in Step 3, you can add water, but if it's too thin, simmer a bit more. Indonesians usually add some chopped bananas as well.
