Fry the tempeh in a frying pan (in 2-3 batches).
Leave 1 tablespoon oil in the pan and add all of the tempeh back into the pan. Then add the ★ ingredients and mix everything together.
It's ready! You can add some citrus juice over the top for extra zest. Have fun with the flavours.
This is kecap manis, a sweet ketchup made with black soy beans.
Story Behind this Recipe
Usually you make this dish by stir-frying it with sambal. But I made it sweeter, so that my kids could eat it. You eat it like natto, just dollop it on rice and mix.
You can transform this dish into a whole new one just by changing the way that you cut the tempeh. If you don't have any kecap manis, you can use a mixture of brown sugar or honey with soy sauce instead.
