A Flavor Of Home: Meat and Miso

A Flavor Of Home: Meat and Miso

This was the most popular recipe at home when I was growing up. It was a standard dish for breakfast and in bentos. It's quite plain, but it's a flavor you'll want to keep coming back to.

Ground pork
200 g
● Miso
3 tablespoons
● Sugar
1 tablespoon
● Sake
1 tablespoon
Egg (any size is OK)
Soy sauce
about 2 teaspoons

1. Mix all the ● ingredients together.
2. No oil is needed in the frying pan. Stir fry the ground pork, until it's crumbly and cooked through. Add the combined ● ingredients and stir fry for 2 to 3 minutes.
3. Beat the egg and add it to the pan, and stir rapidly. Use the bowl you used in Step 1 to save on washing up time.
4. When the egg is cooked through, drizzle in the soy sauce, mix in and it's done!
5. Enjoy on top of hot rice.
6. I made a 2-color soboro bento with the meat-miso and iri tamago (finely scrambled egg).
7. I put butter, the meat-miso, and cheese on a slice of bread and toasted it in a toaster oven. You can use mayonnaise instead of cheese.

Story Behind this Recipe

This is my mother's flavor.
I hope I've recreated it faithfully enough...
