For Bentos and Drinking Appetizers: Hanpen Sandwiches

For Bentos and Drinking Appetizers: Hanpen Sandwiches

I sandwiched a mayonnaise flavored filling between pieces of hanpen fish cake and pan fried it. Try using asparagus or cabbage instead of broccoli! Great when cold too.

Ingredients: 1 hanpen cake worth

Hanpen (large)
Sliced ham
2 slices
20 g
1 tablespoon
Sliced cheese (melting type)
1 slice

1. Slice the hanpen in half to make 2 slices.
2. Microwave the broccoli, and chop it up with the ham. Mix with mayonnaise.
3. Spread the mixture on one piece of hanpen with a spoon.
4. Put the sliced cheese on top, and cover with the other piece of hanpen.
5. Pan fry on both sides until golden brown, and it's done! (If you use a non-stick pan, you won't need any oil.)
6. Let it cool down before cutting. I cut it into 4 pieces. The version in the bento in the main photo is cut into 8.
7. It's a bother to actually weigh the broccoli, so just use the same amount as the ham. (See the photo for Step 2.)

Story Behind this Recipe

I wanted to think up a bento item that used hanpen.
