These 100% whole wheat rolls have been specially made for people adhering to a strict macrobiotic diet. Their wheaty taste is somewhat softened by the sweetness of the raisins making them nice and easy to eat.
Add all of the ingredients except for the dry yeast, raisins and walnuts into the bread maker. Add the dry yeast, raisins and walnuts to the specified area in the bread maker.
Set the bread maker to the bread dough course with raisins. Once the dough is ready, take it out of the machine, separate into 6 equal parts and shape into balls. Leave the bread to rise in a 40°C oven for 90 minutes.
Bake in the oven for 20 minutes at 200°C.
Story Behind this Recipe
I wanted to create a simple recipe that would somehow still result in an easy to eat snack despite the use of 100% whole wheat flour, which doesn't tend to rise very well. It's all well and good to eat fluffy white bread made with all-purpose flour but sometimes I feel like eating heavy and firm macrobiotic bread, too.
When these rolls become cool they'll get a bit hard so please put them in the microwave or toaster oven to warm.
