Easy and Authentic Shiro-an for Osechi

No need for any secret tricks or seasoning! It's an inexpensive and delicious shiro-an (white sweet bean paste) that you'll just have to try.

Ingredients: 1 serving

Storebought ama-natto (sweetened beans) made with shiro-hanamame (white runner beans) - purchasable at a ¥100 store (Japanese equivalent of a dollar store)
110 g
Water
2 tablespoons
Salt
A pinch

Steps

1. Heat the sweetened beans and water in a frying pan.
2. Mash beans lightly with a spoon. Add salt. Stir and simmer over low heat.
3. It's done when the water is reduced and everything becomes nice and sticky.

Story Behind this Recipe

I love shiro-an. My mother-in-law taught me this quick and easy recipe for the New Year's feast. When I tried it, it was so delicious that I finished the whole batch in just a few seconds.
