Grilled Kalbi Skewers (for Cookouts)

Seasoned beef skewers in our special marinade. Wherever you're from, however old you are, this is a dish that everyone is bound to love.

Ingredients: 2 servings

I use American cup measurements in this recipe (1 cup = 240 ml)
Kalbi beef (short ribs)
400 g
For the marinade:
Brown sugar
1/2 cup
Soy sauce
1/2 cup
1/4 cup
2 tablespoons
Onion (finely chopped)
1/2 onion
Garlic (finely chopped)
2 cloves
Sesame oil
1 tablespoon
Black pepper
1/4 teaspoon
Japanese leek (sliced thinly into rounds)
1/2 stalk (1 whole if using the thin American variety)


1. Prepare the meat by slicing it into bite-sized pieces. Combine all the marinade ingredients in a bowl and mix together.
2. Place your bite-size cubes of beef and the marinade from Step 1 into a Ziploc bag or similar. Make sure you create a vacuum and press out any excess air. Let marinate in the refrigerator for 4 hours to overnight.
3. Once your cubes of beef have been thoroughly marinated, skewer them on bamboo sticks. (It'll be easier to push the skewers through if you soak them in water beforehand.)
4. Once you cook both sides for 3-4 minutes each, you're all done! When preparing these for home parties, it might be better to remove the cubes of meat from their skewers and plate them before serving.

My American husband, who loves yakiniku barbecues, decided to try his hand at grilling skewered kalbi. His secret marinade makes the meat amazingly delicious!
