Hors d'Oeuvre Tomato Salad

Hors d'Oeuvre Tomato Salad

This is a chilled tomato salad. You can make it in advance. It looks quite elegant too, so I recommend it for parties! It's a perfect tomato salad for the summer.

Ingredients: 2 servings

Ripe tomatoes
Parsley (or shiso leaves)
To taste
Ground white sesame seeds
about 1 tablespoon
◇ Soy sauce
2 tablespoons
◇ Vinegar
1 tablespoon
◇ Vegetable oil + a little sesame oil
1 tablespoon

1. Chop the onion finely (it doesn't have to be ultra-fine).
2. Put the onion in a bowl of water.
3. Combine the ◇ ingredients.
4. Slice the tomatoes horizontally into round slices, and spread them out on a serving plate. Cut up the edges that you can't slice properly and put them on the sides of the plate.
5. Sprinkle the drained onion on the tomatoes.
6. Sprinkle on some chopped fresh parsley, or shredded shiso if you don't have parsley.
7. Add the ground sesame seeds.
8. Pour the sauce you made in Step 3 over all. Chill in the refrigerator and it's done.

Story Behind this Recipe

My mother used to make this for me, recreating the salad she had at a restaurant she used to go to a lot.
