Grapefruit and Avocado Wrapped In Cured Ham

Grapefruit and Avocado Wrapped In Cured Ham

An easy appetizer made by wrapped cured ham around grapefruit segments and avocado slices. Great for house parties.

Ingredients: 12 pieces

Cured ham (e.g. proscuitto)
12 slices
Lemon juice
1 tablespoon
Coarsely ground black pepper
a small amount
Olive oil
2 tablespoons

1. How to segment a grapefruit: Put the grapefruit on its side, and cut off the bottoms.
2. Turn the grapefruit over with the cut side facing up, and slice between the peel and the fruit with a knife.
3. When the peel and pith have been totally removed, it looks like this.
4. Cut between the fruit and the membrane.
5. Remove the segmented fruit.
6. I recommend chilling the cut grapfruit segments in the refrigerator - they become really delicious!
7. Peel and de-vein the shrimp. Boil in hot water with a little sake, and drain. Leave to cool down. You can use pre-boiled shrimp too!
8. Cut the avocado in half, peel and slce lengthwise. Add lemon juice and mix.
9. Place a slice of avocado and a grapefruit segment on a slice of ham, and wrap tightly. Transfer the wrapped pieces on a plate.
10. Place a shrimp on each piece of ham. Sprinkle with coarsely ground black pepper and olive oil, and it's done.

Story Behind this Recipe

We received a lot of grapefruits as a gift, so I served them as an appetizer.
