Authentic Pork Rice Bowl with Sweet and Savory Sauce

This is a delicious pork rice bowl prepared easily with common ingredients! Pork coated in a sweet and savory sauce is divine! You'll lick the bowl clean.

Ingredients: 4 Servings

Thinly sliced pork belly
200g
Onion
1/2
Vegetable oil
1 tablespoon
Freshly made rice
4 bowls
For the sauce:
★Soy sauce
3 tablespoons
★Sake
3 tablespoons
★Mirin
3 tablespoons
★Soft light brown sugar
2 tablespoons
★Honey
1 teaspoon

Steps

1. Cut the pork into 3-4cm bite sized pieces and thinly slice the onion.
2. Heat vegetable oil in a pan and stir-fry the pork. Once it is cooked through, add the onions and cook until tender. Remove the pork and onions from the pan.
3. Prepare the sauce in the same pan. Add the ingredients labeled ★ and simmer over medium heat until the surface slowly bubbles.
4. Return the pork and onions to the pan, stir while lightly simmering and you're done. Pour on top of steaming rice and enjoy.

Story Behind this Recipe

My husband is from Hokkaido. When his parents came for a visit, we wanted to serve them pork donburi rice bowls, but we were out of our favorite Tokachi pork donburi rice bowl sauce! So, we made it from ingredients we had on hand. The sweet and salty sauce turned out delicious and we were totally satisfied.
