Homemade Chunky Ra-yu

Once you start eating this, you won't be able to stop! If you can find a way to sneak it into your breakfast, it'll give you lots of energy!

Ingredients: 1 jam jar full

Sesame oil
80 ml
Vegetable oil
40 ml
Ichimi spice
1 teaspoon
☆ Garlic
1 whole garlic (about 12 cloves)
☆ The white part of a Japanese leek
Approximately 15 cm
☆ Onion
● White sesame seeds
1 tablespoon
● Salt
1 1/2 teaspoons
● Sugar
1 teaspoon
● Umami seasoning
about 5 shakes


1. Finely chop all the ☆ ingredients. Grind the sesame seeds.
2. Put the rest of the ingredients except for the ones marked ● in a pan over medium heat. Heat while mixing to prevent it from sticking to the pan.
3. Turn off the heat, add the ● ingredients and cook over low heat for 1 to 2 minutes. Done!
4. It has a deep caramel color like this when it's done. The chopped ingredients should be golden brown! It looks so good.

Story Behind this Recipe

Store-bought 'taberu ra-yu' is delicious and disappears fast. So I tried making it at home, and it turned out pretty well. Now I can't ever let it run out.
