Steamed Matcha Green Tea Buns with Pancake Mix

Steamed Matcha Green Tea Buns with Pancake Mix

Steamed buns with a beautiful green tea color and a subtle matcha flavor. Enjoy as a snack or for breakfast. You can store these in the freezer for later.

1 tablespoon
Pancake mix
200 g
Soft brown sugar
as needed (optional 0-30 g)
150 ml
Vegetable oil (optional)
1 tablespoon

1. Heat the steamer. Sift the matcha once. Line the cupcake moulds with aluminium (or paper) cupcake liners.
2. Whisk the egg and sugar in a bowl with a whisk. Add the milk (and vegetable oil) and mix some more.
3. Add the pancake mix and fold it in with a rubber spatula.
4. Finally, mix in the matcha. If you mix the matcha in gently so that it is not fully integrated, you'll have a nice marbled pattern!
5. Pour the mixture into the cupcake molds to about 70% full.
6. Make sure the water in the steamer is boiling, and place the cupcake molds in the steamer. Steam for 10-15 minutes. Poke a skewer into the buns, and if it comes out clean, they are done.
7. Add vegetable oil to the batter if you like. It'll makes the buns more moist.
