Heat the steamer. Sift the matcha once. Line the cupcake moulds with aluminium (or paper) cupcake liners.
Whisk the egg and sugar in a bowl with a whisk. Add the milk (and vegetable oil) and mix some more.
Add the pancake mix and fold it in with a rubber spatula.
Finally, mix in the matcha. If you mix the matcha in gently so that it is not fully integrated, you'll have a nice marbled pattern!
Pour the mixture into the cupcake molds to about 70% full.
Make sure the water in the steamer is boiling, and place the cupcake molds in the steamer. Steam for 10-15 minutes. Poke a skewer into the buns, and if it comes out clean, they are done.
Add vegetable oil to the batter if you like. It'll makes the buns more moist.

This is a variation of my steamed banana buns.
Adjust the amount of sugar to your liking. You could add sweetened beans into the batter for a change. Steaming time will vary depending on the size of the cupcake molds and the amount of batter. Steam for about 10 minutes first, then check the buns. Adjust the time as necessary.
