Heat the steamer. Put aluminium (or paper) cupcake liners in the cupcake molds.
Mix the egg and sugar together in a bowl with a whisk. Add the milk (and vegetable oil) and mix some more.
Add the pancake mix and cut and fold it in with a rubber spatula.
Finally, add the cocoa powder and combine gently.
Pour the mixture into the cupcake molds until about 70% full.
Make sure the water in the steamer is boiling, and place the cupcake molds in the steamer. Steam for 10 - 15 minutes. Poke a skewer into the buns, and if it comes out clean, they are done.
Add vegetable oil to the mixture if you like. It'll result in moist buns.

This is a variation of my steamed banana buns recipe.
Adjust the amount of sugar to your liking. The steaming time will vary depending on the size of the cupcake mold and/or the amount of the mixture in it. Steam for about 10 minutes first then check. Adjust the steaming time if necessary.
