Pan-Fried Tofu With Sesame Ginger Miso

Pan-Fried Tofu With Sesame Ginger Miso

I combined a ginger and sesame flavored sweet miso sauce with pan fried tofu. It's a very rich flavored tofu steak.

Ingredients: 2-3 servings

Tofu (firm or silken)
1 block (400 g)
as needed
1 1/2 tablespoons
2 tablespoons
2 tablespoons
☆ Grated ginger
1 piece worth
☆ White ground sesame seeds
1 tablespoon
Green onions or shiso leaves
to taste
White toasted sesame seeds
to taste
1 1/2 tablespoons

1. Mix together the ingredients marked with ☆ - miso, sake, mirin, grated ginger and ground sesame seeds. Drain the excess water from the tofu. (The method described by Becchin-san in Recipe ID: 508276 is very convenient.)
2. Cut the tofu into easy to eat pieces, and coat each piece with katakuriko. Shake off any excess.
3. Heat some oil in a frying pan, and cook the tofu from Step 2 on both sides over medium heat. When both sides are browned, lower the heat.
4. Pour in the combined flavoring ingredients from step 1 onto Step 3's tofu, and shake the frying pan to mix. Turn the tofu pieces to coat both sides with the sauce.
5. Add some chopped green onion or shiso leaves and sesame seeds on top and it's done.

Story Behind this Recipe

This recipe is adapted from from Pan Fried Pork With Ginger Miso (Recipe ID: 696683), using the sauce. Ginger miso sauce marries well with tofu too.
