Mix the flour and dry yeast, and mix the other ingredients (except for those marked with ◎).
Put the mixture from Step 1 into a bread maker, then let it run for about half of the bread dough course. If it's sticky, you can add a little more flour.
Bring the dough together, wrap in plastic, and let sit in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
Remove from the refrigerator and roll out with a rolling pin to about 1 cm thickness.
Cut into 4-5 cm squares.
Fry in oil heated to about 180°C until lightly browned on both sides.
Remove from the oil. Put the powdered sugar in a plastic bag, add the donuts, and shake to coat. Enjoy!
This is what the real deal looks like. It's calling out for you to eat it, right?
Story Behind this Recipe
The beignets my brother-in-law made for me were so good, I wanted to try making them myself.
Be sure to eat them fresh. If you can't eat them right away, put the dough in the refrigerator and let chill until you are just about ready to eat. They're also good cold, but are simply best when fresh!
